Good Eats:
There’s no doubt that the Carmichael (and greater Sacramento area) has a flourishing foodie scene. From the freshest sushi to the most authentic Italian cuisine, this list has something for just about everyone. Fair warning: You may get hungry while reading this…
For the Sushi Fanatic: With sushi places popping up all around town, it can be hard to know where to find the freshest and most creative rolls. Well look no further, because Taro’s By Mikuni, located off of Arden Way at The Arden Fair Mall, has it all! From the conservative to the adventurous, there are delicious pairings for even the pickiest of palettes. Not to mention, the staff are polite, accommodating and extremely friendly. If you prefer something fresh and light, try the fresh “Nigiri” or the “Citrus Blossom”, which is a combination of lightly grilled white tuna, sweet orange dressing, and ponzu sauce with white onions and sesame seeds. If you like something a little more hearty, try the “Peter Two” roll with seared tuna, eel, avocado, spicy tuna, crab mix, panko shrimp, spicy dream sauces, masago and onion.
For the Cheese And Wine Connoisseur: Do you consider yourself a cheese and wine connoisseur? Head downtown to The Rind, where you can experience unique artisanal cheese paired with equally delicious wines and beers in a rustic, dimly lit bar with warm and cozy vibes. Not sure what to order? Start off with one of their delicious cheese boards which comes with accompaniments, crostini and also gluten-free options. Next, dive into their adult grilled cheese… because no one is ever too old for an ooey-gooey grilled cheese sandwich fixed with all the works. Speaking of the works, “The Brie-D” is to die for and was recently voted the best grilled cheese in the nation. With fuji apples, prosciutto, salted caramel sauce, rosemary and a hint of cayenne and guajillo, all melted to perfection and stuffed between two toasty pieces of sourdough, what’s not to love?
For the Margarita & Mexican Food Lover: Did somebody say Taco Tuesday? If you’re a fan of the finer things in life such as freshly muddled margaritas and authentic Mexican cuisine, then you may want to make Mesa Mercado in the new Carmichael Milagro Centre your go-to “Taco Tuesday” destination. For a margarita with a little kick to it, try their “Pepino Picante”, with muddled cucumber, chili powder, fresh lime juice and 100% blue agave tequila and mescal. For a sweeter margarita without the headache, try their “Mango” margarita, with pureed mango and chile, their secret margarita mix and freshly sliced mango and chile spice topped at the rim. If you want a taco to go with that margarita, you can’t go wrong with their marinated skirt steak or roasted pork tacos.
For the Football Watcher: For those of you in Carmichael that like to kick back and watch football on weekends with a beer (or two) and some all-American grub, check out Club House Bar & Grill and Palm Street Pub & Grill. To be honest, we just couldn’t decide between the two—both are neighborhood-friendly places that offer full-service bars, delicious burgers, wings and fries. Palm Street also offers a game of pool and darts. What more could you ask for? If you’re looking for a new place to try downtown, take a trip to the Firestone Public House on 16th Street. With 60 beers on tap, 22 flat screens, and two outdoor patios—not to mention mouth-watering burgers and an American-inspired menu—this restaurant is an ideal place for your football hangouts. Catching a Kings game at the new Golden One Center? Stop by Sauced BBQ & Spirits beforehand for some good old-fashioned, authentic BBQ with classics including sliced brisket, pulled pork, ribs and chicken. Oh, and don’t forget the sweet honey cornbread, mac n’ cheese and crispy fries.
For the Pasta Lover: If you enjoy fresh seafood, hand tossed pizzas and delicious pasta pairings, Il Forno Classico may become your new go-to Italian spot. Located in the lovely Gold River Town Centre, Il Forno boasts gorgeous indoor and outdoor seating places, a friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the freshest ingredients. Plus, on any given day, they have an extensive wine collection of 600+ wine pairings! Did somebody say wine Wednesday?
Best Outdoor Patio Seating: There are so many great restaurants with gorgeous outdoor seating and ambience that we couldn’t pick just one…so naturally we picked four. First up is The Waterboy, located in Midtown Sacramento. With 20 years of delicious food and great service under their belt, it’s no wonder they made the list. Take a seat on their outdoor patio and enjoy lovely cuisines inspired by northern Italy and southern France with a nice glass of wine. You can’t go wrong with anything on their menu from their burgers to their steak, but their famous deviled eggs are a must! Just a short drive away, Zinfandel Grille is another excellent option with a beautiful outdoor patio and equally pleasing food. This upscale-causal eatery features Mediterranean-inspired food, great happy hours and even live music on some nights. Aside from their delicious wood-fired pizzas, pastas and meats, their dessert is to die for. End the night with their “Chocolate Mousse Cake” and we promise you, you won’t leave disappointed! One of Sacramento’s newer restaurants, Wildwoods Kitchen & Bar is another must visit. This trendy restaurant features a classy indoor area with bar and booth seating, an expansive patio area with twinkling white lights and live music (Thursday-Saturday) and creative food pairings. If you’re opting for something lighter, try their “Chicken Salad” with rotisserie chicken, mixed veggies and goat cheese, topped with a six-minute egg and drizzled white balsamic vinaigrette. They also have a wide array of vegetarian and gluten-free options. Win-win! And last but certainly not least, Matteos Pizza & Bistro is another great spot to grab a delicious bite outdoors. Located at Five Points in Carmichael, Matteos offers a delicious and relaxing dining experience with hearty salads, sandwiches, pastas, burgers and of course, pizza. Not sure what to order? Try “The California” pizza with chicken, baby artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes, mozzarella, goat cheese and garlic cream sauce. Their “Asian Noddle” salad is another favorite.
